Digital media is all around us. We see or hear it on TV, various websites, social media platforms, podcasts, and many other locations. The sites and applications I use the most are YouTube, Facebook Messenger, and TikTok. I use YouTube to watch the news in the morning as I get ready for the day. I also use this platform for my business posting the various videos I have put together for organizations. I also use this platform to learn more tricks when it comes to the Adobe Creative Suite. It’s a way for me to learn the latest tips and tricks released from the various updates pushed out. TikTok I use for more of a personal use to allow myself to check a nothing box to be entertained. Different funny videos, how-to videos, crockpot recipes, and more. With Facebook Messenger, I use this to speak with many of my clients that I work with on various projects. Some of them prefer this method over email so it can’t be lost with all of the other emails that come in throughout the week. Facebook Messenger is an app that allows people to communicate with individuals one-on-one or communicate with groups of individuals. According to Hootsuite,  Facebook Messenger is the second most used social media messenger around the world (Hootsuite, 2019).

With certain types of digital media, I gravitate toward the platforms that give me the most positive reactions when interacting with or viewing them. The platforms that are the most positive to me are Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok just to name a few. These various digital media platforms allow me to gather information, allow me to connect with others in a manner that I enjoy, and provide a source of entertainment.
The ones that give me the most negative reactions when using them are Snapchat, LinkedIn, and Instagram. Now, to be fair, I have only tried to use Snapchat and Instagram in small amounts. For me, they do not provide what I’m looking for in terms of entertainment, connecting with others, or major uses for my business minus making posts here and there. I use LinkedIn a decent amount to post information on what I can provide for customers or clients. However, I don’t find it extremely easy to use and to get the most out of it you have to pay a service fee which I am not interested in. According to socialchamp.io, Snapchat will be the 10th most-used platform in the world in 2023 (Hafeez, 2023). With this information, I can’t fault Snapchat. It’s a very popular social media platform. However, it just does not appeal to me at this time.

"For those of you who do not know, over 70% of Gen X consumers have the highest brand loyalty over
Boomers, Millennials, and Gen Z!"
I am fully aware that I am 100% in Generation X. For those of you who do not know, over 70% of Gen X consumers have the highest brand loyalty over Boomers, Millennials, and Gen Z (What is generational marketing, 2022). My kids and students call me old and I’m sure I’m just stuck in my ways. However, I still enjoy Facebook and YouTube over many of the other platforms. Other digital media sites offer very similar tools, experiences, and resources. However, Facebook and YouTube do just about everything that I am looking to do. Because of this, I tend to have more of my needs satisfied for digital media using these platforms over many others.
When it comes to email, I use Gmail and Yahoo the most. For personal use, I use Yahoo because I have been using the same account for over 25 years and I am comfortable with the ins and outs of the tools and the inner workings of the product. The same goes for Gmail and I typically use this more for the business side of things. The first thing I look for when viewing my emails is spam/junk mail and then start looking for important emails to see if there is anything that I need to address first thing before any others. Once these have been sorted and gone through I then look at my other emails which are typically news-related, advertisements for various companies, and more.

When it comes to digital marketing today, one of the biggest things that I noticed is that many companies and individuals have made huge strides in how they are culturally aware and inclusive. Most do their best to appeal to a mass market and try to be all-inclusive. In a previous class that I took at SNHU, we had to study marketing blunders that have happened over the years. Organizations and individuals are still going to make mistakes and the more we learn about being sensitive and inclusive the better off we will be. Overall, we are getting better at marketing to mass individuals, being all-inclusive, and being culturally aware.
